Dance Curriculum
The dance year consists of two 17 week semesters followed by a short summer session. A variety of intensive and recreational dance camps for children and adults will be offered to complete the summer season. Each spring semester culminates with the Annual Spring Performance, featuring students participating in classes that began in September. Our youngest dancers, in creative dance, pre-ballet and other beginning classes will have the unique opportunity to perform in the comfortable and soothing environment of The Community House. Please note there are some additional costs involved in recital participation. Students wishing advanced dance training may also audition for performance & competition ensembles. A complete list of class descriptions can be found by clicking the class descriptions link to the right.
Remember to register early, classes fill quickly!
Dance Studio Facilities
TCH Dance Academy is housed in the lower level of The Community House. The DeRoy and Allesee Dance Studios are spacious rooms equipped with cushioned wood dance floors covered in the top of line marley dance floor covering for optimum performance and safety. Full length mirrors, wall mounted and portable barres complete the studios. Both studios have observation windows in the hallway/lobby area. Our lobby bulletin boards are a great resource for global dance news, dance education postings and will showcase our dance students’ accomplishments. Located in the lounge of the lower level ladies restroom are storage lockers to place your clothing while you are in class. The dance director’s office is located on 2nd floor for private parent/teacher conferencing.
Workshop - Seminars - Camps - Field Trips
Special dance programs and guest teacher events will be offered to our dance students and families throughout the year. These events will give students a unique opportunity not only to view but also to fully experience the work and methods of major choreographers, master teachers, and directors. The events also serve as a platform for participants to be seen by these teaching artists and college professors for scouting and networking purposes.
Private Lessons
Arrange a private session, tailored specifically to the needs of your child. Students may take the opportunity to schedule private coaching sessions with a member of our esteemed faculty in preparation for a competition, a school talent show, or to brush up on basic techniques. The student will have the opportunity to be given personal corrections, undivided attention and personally guided instruction. Instructors are available in any of the disciplines currently offered. To schedule a session please contact the Director of TCH Dance Academy.
Outreach Programs
Perhaps you would like to bring your Girl Scout Troupe to The Community House. We can do that! Or we can come to you. TCH Dance Academy in partnership with The Community House is launching an outreach program, encouraging children and their families across the Metro-Detroit area to get up and dance. TCH Dance Academy staff and/or student performing groups will visit schools, festivals and community centers engaging members in dance presentations and activities. TCH Dance Academy has brought together some of the finest dance educators to prepare visits that are fun, inspiring and educating. Dance lessons delve into a world of dance styles, which may include jazz, modern, hip hop, ballet, and creative movement. Participants will gain knowledge in technique and be inspired to move. The faculty can tailor their visits to the specific needs and goals of the hosting organization or event. To book your dance event your group leader should contact Director of TCH Dance Academy a minimum of one month before arrival in order to arrange a schedule and program that will best suit your needs and expectations.
