DANCE CURRICULUM
Pre-Professional Track
Classes are age-appropriate using a graded syllabus and emphasis is placed on the individual development of each student. This course of study begins with classes in Creative Movement for our youngest students, preparing them for Pre-Ballet and Primary Ballet Levels 1-4. Classes meet one time per week. As students progress, they begin to study Classical Ballet two or more times per week. Students will be given additional performance opportunity and a chance to audition for ballet and jazz performance groups. Jazz and tap students enrolled in the pre-professional track must study ballet.
Creative Dance: Ages 3-4 (prepares for pre-ballet)
Pre-Ballet: Ages 5-6 (must be in Kindergarten)
Primary Ballet: Levels 1-4, ages 6 & up (prepares for Classical Ballet)
Classical Ballet: Levels I through V (minimum of 2 classes per week)
Jazz: Levels Beginning through Advanced, ages 7 & up
Modern: Ages 9-Teen
Tap: Ages 6 & up
Adult Ballet: Levels Beginning through High Intermediate
Performance Company: Available by Audition, ages 10 & up.

Recreational Track
Recreational classes are designed for students exploring dance who are not currently enrolled in a ballet class, and for students whose primary interest lies in musical theater or sports. Students will experience the same quality training and individual attention given in our pre-professional track. Our goal is to create an enriching experience for all students enrolled in our program with emphasis on the individual development of each dancer.
Dance FUNdamentals: Ages 5-7
Jazz: Ages 8-12
Tap: Ages 8-9
Pre-teen Jazz: Ages 10-12
Hip Hop: Boys and Girls ages 11 & up
Adult Tap: Levels Beginning through Intermediate
Modern: Ages 9-11, Teens
AGE REQUIREMENTS
For students that will turn 3 before 9/30/2009, Creative Dance Age 3
For students that will turn 4 before 9/30/2009, Creative Dance Age 4
For students that will turn 5 before 9/30/2009, Early Pre-Ballet
For students that turned 5 before 3/30/2009, Pre-Ballet or Dance FUNdamentals
For students that will turn 6 before 9/30/2009, Primary 1 with completion of Pre-Ballet

PERFORMANCE COMPANY
Available to qualifying students, age 10 and up. Dancers will participate in community performance, dance competitions, workshops and field trips. Students must be enrolled in the Pre-professional Track and study ballet. Auditions will be announced.
Last season our ballet students performed in Joffrey Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, and Michigan Classic Ballet productions of "The Nutcracker." Our jazz students have consistently earned high scoring awards and scholarships at dance competitions throughout Michigan.
WORKSHOPS
Students are encouraged to attend workshops and master classes which are offered each year. |
