She has been a part of the Oakland County Child Care Council Board of Directors for five years and has sat on area school Advisory Committees. She has three children of her own and has been with The Community House since May 2000.
Our Co-Director Robin Psenka, who comes to TCH with 13 years of ECC experience as well as knowledge of the HighScope Curriculum which is used in our ECC. Robin has a Bachelor’s Degree from Rochester College and a Master’s Degree from Oakland University with both degrees in Early Childhood Education. She is a trainer for Oakland Schools and sits on boards for various early childhood initiatives. She has two children of her own and has been with The Community House since 2011.
Our Teachers are carefully chosen through an extensive interview process. They are selected on the basis of their educational backgrounds, their ability to meet the individual needs of the children and their teamwork skills. All of our teachers have formal education or training in the field of Early Childhood. Our teachers are paid competitive salaries with the options of health and vacation benefits. This helps the ECC keep a consistent staff of familiar faces. The ECC believes that ongoing training is not only important, but also imperative for the teachers. Therefore, the teachers attend conferences and monthly staff/training meetings.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
The ECC believes that the partnership between parents and the Center should be a strong one. This is why we have an open door policy, which enables you, as parents, to come visit anytime. We encourage parents, grandparents, and families to see how your children spend their day. The ECC also invites parents to come and share lesson plans for a theme, a family or ethnic tradition with the entire Center. The ECC has occasional Saturday field trips so the entire family can attend. Although the ECC does not function as a parent co-op, parents, through the Parent Group, are frequently asked to express their hopes and desires for the program. The Parent Group meets every other month. The time of the meeting is scheduled by the Parent Group President. The Parent Group does fundraising and organizes parties and field trips.
