Student Art Town
The Community House

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the Student Art Town Exhibit is part of The Community House’s “Experience the Arts” youth engagement program. This special event showcases the creative talents of young artists from elementary to high school throughout Metro Detroit. A wide variety of artwork from drawings to landscapes and photography to watercolor will turn the halls of The Community House into a very special student gallery. On Saturday, March 28th from 9 AM to 6 PM, Student Art Town will be open to the community to witness the talent and dedication of our young artists, as well as, participate in free, community art education classes from 11 AM to 12 PM.

On Friday, March 27th The Community House will invite participating schools to join us for a private, exhibition opening and award ceremony – only for student artists, their families, and educators. The event will feature strolling appetizers and desserts, music, and of course the incredible artistic pieces from our tremendously talented students.

In an effort to ensure that all participants have an opportunity to appreciate the evening, The Community House will be hosting 2 event sessions on the evening of March 27th:

Elementary & Lower School Students (K to 5th) along with their family and teachers are invited to attend. Doors open at 5 PM, including an award ceremony at 6 PM with the event concluding by 6:30 PM.

Middle, High, & Upper School Students (6th to 12th) along with their family and teachers are invited to attend. Doors open at 6:30 PM, including an award ceremony at 7:15 PM.

All schools will be recognized for the critical role they play in our youth’s development with all participants receiving a certificate of merit. Barbara Heller, Director and Conservator for the Detroit Institute of Arts will provide first, second, and third place, and honorable mention awards at each session.
