Responsible for the preparation of food services for onsite events and for the oversight of all associated kitchen functions and personnel. Works a flexible schedule which includes evenings and weekends.  Excellent growth opportunity!


•Manages the activities involved in the preparation of food for The Community House by putting together prep sheets, attending BEO meetings, and whatever other means are deemed necessary for the operation of The Community House Kitchen.
•Ensures an efficient and profitable food service operating at a food cost set at a number agreed upon in the annual budget.
•Plans menus and the utilization of surplus food and leftovers.
•Reviews menus, analyzes recipes, determines food, labor and overhead costs to provide input for pricing items.
•Directs food apportionment policy to control costs.
•Purchases food needed for menus.
•Supervises cooking and other kitchen personnel and coordinates their assignments to ensure economical and timely food production.
•Directs methods of food preparation and cooking, sizes of portions, creativity and garnishing of foods to ensure that the food is prepared in the prescribed manner.
• Tests and prepares food by taste, smell, color and presentation.
•Devises special dishes and develops recipes.
•Oversees the creation, implementation and continued development of Catering menus utilized by the Hospitality Operations team.
•Adheres to and meets all health, safety and cleanliness standards regarding food handling and kitchen maintenance.
•Maintains proper inventories for all food service events.
•Ensures the proper storage of all kitchen goods in the storeroom, refrigerator, and walk-in freezer.
•Ensures accuracy checks for the receipt, weight and measurement of all deliveries.
•Conducts tastings for in-house and external events and generates custom menus when called upon.
•Sets and follows through on all purchasing agreements with support from Director, Hospitality Operations.
•Performs related duties as assigned.


•College degree or culinary school degree.
•Three years of Chef experience preferred.
•Previous banquet experience.
•Supervisory experience required.
•Maintains an active ServSafe License.
•Able to meet Michigan State Health Code Standards.
•Demonstrated commitment to the principle of outstanding customer service.
•Excellent organization and planning skills.
•Ability to express oneself in an articulate and effective manner both verbally and in writing when communicating with staff, vendors, and guests.
•Negotiation skills preferred.
•Strong financial background with ability to write and interpret budgets and to manage food cost within forecasted sales.
•Ability to plan menus with average margins to meet profit goals.
•Able to work under pressure and meet required deadlines.
•Able to keep the necessary proprietary information confidential.
•Computer experience with working knowledge of Word and Excel. Ability to learn internal software programs.
•Must be able to operate computer, telephone, calculator, ovens, grills, fryer, steamer, kitchen equipment, fax, and copy machines.
•Able to define problems and recommend appropriate solutions.
•Able to deal with problematic people and situations that could result in dissatisfied customers.
