SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR (Part-time, Seasonal)

The Community House (TCH) hosts a variety of half day, weeklong camps throughout the summer. We are looking for energetic, accountable, and positive individuals to assist with the daily responsibilities of camp! Counselors are responsible for the safety of campers, the organization of the facility, and the coordination of daily activities, such as, check-in, lunch, sport tournaments, talent shows, arts and crafts, and more. Great summer job!

Responsibility

• Maintain a positive and safe environment for co-workers, campers and their families.
• Support Camp Coordinator and other counselors and encourage new ideas.
• Supervise group of campers, ages 5-14, daily.
• Assist Camp Instructors with leading activities, camper safety, and bathroom breaks.
• Lead Morning Care, Lunch Club, After Care, and Extension program.
• Oversee general safety and supervision of campers.
• Provide general First Aid care when needed.
• Greet families and administer proper signing in and signing out procedure of campers.
• Facilitate bathroom breaks, travel from camp to camp as needed.
• Ensure campers are aware of and following all rules and camp polices.
• Communicate camper concerns to the Camp Coordinator or other appropriate leadership.
• Familiarize yourself with the rules and procedures in the Summer Camp Counselor handbook
• Support the mission of The Community House.

Physical Demands
• Lifting up to 30lbs unassisted: raising or lowering an object from one level to another to assist with camp activities.
• Carrying: transporting an object, usually holding it in the hands or arms to assist with camp activities.
• Standing: remaining on one’s feet in an upright position without moving about for an extended period while leading activities and assisting instructors.
• Walking: moving about on foot, leading campers to different camps and activities.
• Sitting: remaining in a seated position while working on the computer or assisting via phone.

Training
• CPR, First Aid, AED Training (Paid by The Community House): TBD
• The Community House’s Organizational Orientation: June 15th
• Summer Camp Counselor Orientation and Training: June 16th – 17th

Compensation
• $12/per hour
• Reimbursement for parking expenses within the assigned parking structure

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older; applicants must hold a High School Diploma.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must complete a background check upon hiring.
• CPR and First Aid Certified (can be obtained through The Community House).
• Experience working with camps, youth programs, recreation, or general childcare is preferred.
• Strong leadership skills to assist with camp activities and encourage campers to participate.
• Remain patient and understanding when mediating conflicts that may arise between campers.
• Keep necessary proprietary information confidential.
• Be punctual and in attendance daily.
• Ability to work harmoniously with Directors, Camp Coordinator and co-workers.
• Skills to stay flexible and adapt accordingly when problem solving.
• Able to stay alert and focused at all times.

Work Schedule

• 8-week commitment
• 20-30 hours weekly
• Start Date: Wednesday, June 15th
• End Date: Wednesday, August 17th
• Monday-Friday 7:45 am-12:45 pm OR 12:15 pm-5:15 pm
• Training: June 15th -17th
• Camps begin the week of June 20th
• No camps the week of July 4th
