Student Art Town
MAY 5 – MAY 6, 2017

Celebrating its 27th anniversary this year, the Student Art Town Exhibit is part of The Community House’s “Experience the Arts” youth engagement program. This special event showcases the creative talents of young artists, from elementary to high school, throughout Metro Detroit. A wide variety of artwork from drawings to landscapes, and photography to watercolor, will turn the halls of The Community House into a very special student gallery. The Community House invites friends, family and the public to enjoy the exhibition free of charge on Friday, May 5th from 9am-6pm.

On Saturday, May 6th, The Community House invites participating public, private and charter schools to join us for another exceptional year of Student Art Town with two awards ceremonies, based on student grade level. Student artists and their teachers are invited as our guests to enjoy a brunch or luncheon and be honored by their teachers in front of their classmates and other art students throughout the area. Family and friends of the students are also invited to join in on the festivities and celebrate these great young artists for a small fee of $20. Tickets to attend the brunch or luncheon can be purchased HERE.

All elementary students will be recognized on stage and receive an award certificate from their art teacher. In addition to being recognized on stage and receiving an award certificate, middle and high school students’ artwork will be juried by Barbara Heller, Director and Conservator for the Detroit Institute of Arts. First, second and third place prizes will be presented as well as honorable mentions.

In conjunction with the two awards ceremonies, a FREE ART WORKSHOP will be open to the public on Saturday, May 6th from 11am-12:30pm at The Community House. Please email Danielle LaBarge, Director of Special Events at to reserve your spot today!
