The Race Relations and Diversity Task Force is honored to provide the Metro Detroit community with an opportunity to remember the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The morning will begin with opening reflections by Matthew Schmitt, Co-Founder of The Table Setters, Activist, Musician, Writer. Then a facilitated discussion and guided activities with Elizabeth Whittaker-Walker, Principal, Raymond Whittaker Design will provide us with a vehicle to let our voices be heard. Spend an enlightening morning with us as we celebrate, remember and move forward guided by the legacy of Dr. King.

Free parking is available for the first two hours in the Chester Street Structure and all other Birmingham parking structures. There is also metered parking across from The Community House at $2.00 an hour (limit 4 hours). Parking is free on Sundays in all parking structures and meters. Revised Parking Map

Celebrate a Diversity Champion You Know!

A Diversity Champion may be someone who has helped your organization adopt or implement a policy supportive of diversity, equity and the ideals of inclusion.

The Diversity Champion Honor Roll is inclusive and non-competitive. To be eligible, all criteria below must be met.

  • The nominating organization is non-partisan in either the public, private or nonprofit sectors, including schools
  • The nominating organization is located in Metropolitan Detroit
  • In combination, there are ten or more volunteers, members or employees in the nominating organization
  • The organization is nominating one individual only for their support of diversity, equity and the ideals of inclusion within the organization
  • The nominee may be an employee, volunteer or member
  • Nominator and nominee must be part of the same organization
  • The nominee and nominator or the nominator’s designee must attend the recognition event on May 2, 2019
